Chirashree Debnath: A Journey in Literature and Mathematics
Chirashree Debnath, a prominent literary figure and mathematician from the northeastern Indian state of Tripura, was born on February 12, 1979, in the small town of Kailashahar. Her father, Radhagobinda Majumder, was a Sanskrit scholar, and her mother, Mayarani Majumder, was a homemaker. Both her parents are no more. Chirashree completed her higher education in mathematics at Assam University, securing second place in her class. She currently pursues a career in teaching while passionately dedicating herself to writing.
From a young age, Chirashree exhibited a natural talent for storytelling, poetry, and essay writing. Her works are regularly featured in various little magazines and newspapers. Her contributions to literature have earned her numerous accolades, including:
Advaita Mallabarman Short Story First Prize (Government of Tripura)
Srot Sahitya Short Story Award
First Prize in Essay Competition (Government of Tripura's Information Commission)
Sumitra Kar Young Author Award (2019)
One of her short stories, "Barronfield," was adapted into a short film by Kolkata-based filmmaker Ratnadeep Roy. The film was showcased at the In Short Film Festival in Nigeria.
Editorial Work and Literary Beliefs
For over eight years, Chirashree has been co-editing a literary journal titled "Keenakal." She believes poetry is deeply intertwined with the soul and that it becomes an inseparable part of one’s existence.
